Buyer's Guide

An Introduction

This is one of the most fascinating actresses' careers in the history of cinema - although launched as a delicate beauty with her charming turn in The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg, she almost immediately switched to edgier roles, such as the schizophrenic killer in Polanski's terrifying Repulsion - it is one of the great horror performances. This was followed by the daring challenge of playing the housewife-prostitute in Belle De Jour, another triumph. A massively enigmatic actress who has worked with many of the world's greatest directors, she received an Oscar nomination as the proud plantation owner in Indochine.
