Buyer's Guide

An Introduction

This ultimate movie star (only James Dean could rival her iconic status) has been analysed so often over the decades that her ability as an actress has often been sidelined. Her dumb blonde looks could have lead to a career in B-movies, but after a scene-stealing cameo in All About Eve she was quickly re-invented as a comedienne, whilst her talent as a singer was also displayed in a number of comedy-musicals such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Her comic timing was never sharper than as Sugar Kane in Some Like It Hot, yet a dramatic side she never really had the chance to exhibit was evident in her swan song, playing the idealist heroine of The Misfits.
