Buyer's Guide

An Introduction

Although she has been making films for over two decades, it is only in recent years that Kidman has started to get the roles she deserves. Following her critical acclaim for the black comedy To Die For, she snapped up some of the choicest roles of the last five years, including the passionate courtesan in the joyous Moulin Rouge and the haunted mother, barely containing her hysteria, in The Others. One of Kidman's great assets is her willingness to take on risky roles: she was never better than in Von Trier's controversial Dogville; the last scene of that masterpiece is one of the most compelling in recent cinema, and much of its impact is due to Kidman.
