An Introduction Although best-remembered for his Shakespeare roles, Olivier started his film career as a moody matinee idol dominating the likes of Wuthering Heights and Pride And Prejudice before his definitive turn as the mysterious Max De Winter in Hitchcock's marvellous Rebecca. He then directed and starred in many superb Shakespeare adaptations, the best of which may be Henry V, as much an action film as a drama. His greatest non-Shakespeare role is arguably The Entertainer, in which he gives an exemplary depiction of a ruined man.
