An Introduction Bergman's career encompasses an astonishing range of roles, and although probably best remembered as Isla, Bogie's old flame in Casablanca, she gave dozens of brilliant performances. She excels in her work with Hitchcock, especially as the firey, drunken spy in Notorious; it is a completely electrifying portrayal, arguably the best ever performance in a Hitchcock film. Bergman also took daring roles outside of America; she is riveting as the selfish mother in Ingmar Bergman's Autumn Sonata, one of her last roles.
