Buyer's Guide

Humphrey Bogart An Introduction

After securing his big break in The Petrified Forest after Leslie Howard threatened to quit unless Bogart was given a part, this beloved actor was mainly cast in gangster roles until The Maltese Falcon brought his trademark jaded cynicism to the screen. His wit and talent shine through all of his film noirs, and he proved he could reveal a tender side in the evergreen Casablanca. His Academy Award for the lovable drunken oaf in the delightful The African Queen may have been a sentimental gesture, but who would begrudge Bogie an Oscar?
