There have been tantrums and tears, bickering and bribes in the MovieMail office this month as we finalised our Top 50 Films of All Time, but we finally got there.

On what basis have we chosen these titles? We agreed a film could be considered great depending on how successfully it achieved its goals. These goals do not have to be lofty (see # 27), but they certainly can be (see # 4). It can also be great by doing something new that changed cinema forever (see our # 2 pick).

We hope our list helps you to discover some truly wonderful films.
