Probably the most famous film actor in the history of Japanese cinema, Mifune is inevitably associated with the many Samurai roles he undertook during his long career. The Seven Samurai is his best-known appearance, but he was even better as the wiley manipulator in Yojimbo, for which he won the Best Actor award at Venice. He was terrific in his many collaborations with Kurosawa, yet proved very moving in smaller roles, such as his doomed page in Mizoguchi's melodrama The Life of Oharu.

With his piercing blue eyes and classic good looks, Paul Newman quickly rose to fame becoming one of the most respected and popular Hollywood actors of his generation. During his career he would star in 60 films choosing to play rogues, rebels, misfits and losers - many at the time made comparisons with Marlon Brando and James Dean because of this. Great examples of Newman's character roles include the arrogant and amoral pool champion in The Hustler and the sullen, apathetic prison inmate Cool Hand Luke. His most loved role would be as Butch Cassidy alongside Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Newman's success continued into his later years giving one of his best performances in the Road the Perdition in 2002. His final performance was as the voice of Doc Hudson in Pixar's Cars.
