2010 Academy Award Winners

The Hurt Locker wins 6 awards at last night's ceremony making Kathryn Bigelow the first woman ever to win a Best Director Oscar. Best Actor and Actress awards went to the two hollywood favourites.

In Los Angeles last night the 2010 Oscar winners were presented with their trophies. The excellent Hurt Locker won a total of 6 prizes including Best Director won for the first time by a female director: Kathryn Bigelow. This was also the lowest grossing film to have ever won!

Oscars for Best Actor and Actress were gained by the fabulous Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) and Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side). These much loved Americans beat the British BAFTA winners Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Carey Mulligan (An Education).

The Argentine film "The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos)", a thriller about a 25-year-long manhunt, won the Academy Award for best foreign language film. The Oscar win was the second for Argentina, following the win by "The Official Story" in 1985. The film's director, Juan Jose Campanella, previously directed a movie that was also nominated for best foreign film: "Son of the Bride" in 2002. He has also worked frequently in American TV, including the shows "House" and "30 Rock."

Best Supporting actress went to Mo’Nique for Precious, and Best Supporting Actor to Christopher Waltz for Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Both these admirable films are available on DVD as are most of the winners. Watch and see what you think.
