Pork Chop Hill
Film Description During the Korean War, an American platoon, led by their inscrutable lieutenant, attack a Chinese-held hill of questionable strategic value at great cost to lives and ammunition. The futility of war and heroism is put into chillingly ironic perspective against the vivid spectacle. Impressive performances, especially from Peck as the gung-ho platoon leader.

Review by CJ on 2nd June 2000 During the Korean War, an American platoon, led by their inscrutable lieutenant, attack a Chinese-held hill of questionable strategic value at great cost to lives and ammunition. The futility of war and heroism is put into chillingly ironic perspective against the vivid spectacle. Impressive performances, especially from Peck as the gung-ho platoon leader, and despite the tacked on voice-over at the film's climax (inserted due to studio interference after executives blanched at the film's downbeat tone) Milestone, as in All Quiet on the Western Front and A Walk In the Sun, proves himself one of finest interpreters of the futility of war and the understanding of the individual soldier. CJ.
