Film Description

An outstanding documentary chronicle of the conquest of Everest by the Hunt Expedition that also features footage of earlier attempts on the mountain. Louis MacNeice wrote the commentary, and the film footage of the expedition, in which with Sherpa Tenzing and Edmund Hillary finally reached the summit of Everest, is amazing. The cinematography is from Thomas Stobart and George Lowe. History in the making.

Review by Barry Forshaw on 21st February 2005

A remarkable historical document. The Conquest of Everest adds lustre to the documentary genre: shot during the 1953 expedition to the high level slopes of Mount Everest. Following the tough struggle of the group to reach even greater heights it reveals the stunning and breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. This true-life account of the heroic ascent to the world's highest peak is compelling viewing.
