Film Description

The film which challenged the fairytale heroism of Olivier's patriotic 1944 version, and sparked the Shakespeare renaissance of the 1990s, 'Henry V' is by some distance Branagh's finest hour as actor and director.

Developed from a Royal Shakespeare Company production, it is gritty, intimate and moving, leaving us in no doubt about the human cost of the war against France. Branagh's vulnerable hero is supported by outstanding ensemble playing from the likes of Judi Dench, Ian Holm and Paul Schofield; Phylis Dalton's earthy costumes won an Oscar.
