Film Description

Mel Gibson takes the lead in Zeffirelli's version of Shakespeare's Hamlet and is ably backed by an excellent supporting cast. Glenn Close plays Gertrude, Alan Bates is the usurper Claudius, Paul Scofield plays the ghost of Hamlet's father, Ian Holm is the meddling advisor Polonius and Helena Bonham-Carter plays the ill-fated Ophelia.
