Review by Barry Forshaw on 14th June 2004

In career that included such well-remembered movies as The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven and Gunfight at the Ok Corral, The Eagle Has Landed may not be John Sturges’ finest hour, but it’s nevertheless a solid piece of work. This adaptation of Jack Higgins’ best-seller about a German attempt to kidnap Winston Churchill comes here in a special edition 2-disc DVD, and includes the original theatrical and extended video version of the movie along with a host of extras. A scheme which would alter the outcome of the war is put into action by Colonel Radl (Robert Duvall), who is convinced an attempt to kidnap Churchill should be made. He enlists the help of Colonel Steiner (Michael Caine), who is under suspended sentence of death, and of Liam Devlin (Donald Sutherland).
