This film is not currently available on DVD.

Film Description

A period drama set in Italy at the turn of the century in which two proper Englishwomen, determined to get away from their drab lives and inattentive husbands, find paradise among the serene countryside of the Italian Riviera. Though personalities soon clash with their unlikely companions at the villa they rent, they are soon reminded of ways to live and love that have long eluded them.

Review by Dan S on 17th October 2000

A wonderfully evocative film perfect for a miserable day. Four ladies in Edwardian Britain take the bold step of hiring an Italian house - unchapperoned, no less - to escape from their drab lives.
During a sun drenched summer away from the straight jacket of London they are free to discover who they are.
Wistful in the way that Cinema Paradiso was or the excellent La Gloire De Mon Pere.
