Review by Victoria Jenkins on 2nd March 2001 The winner of 6 Academy Awards, this film tells the story of Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter), an aspiring young actress who manipulates and lies her way into the life of veteran star Margo Channing (Bette Davis). Davis is superb as the aging star who has to learn to give up her fame gracefully and be happy with the love of her friends and boyfriend. Baxter sizzles as the fresh-faced beauty who fools everyone at first with her innocent charm, but whose deceit backfires giving her the stardom she craves, but depriving her of the love she needs.

Review by JJ on Margo Channing, celebrated actress, has her tight little circle, consisting of her director suitor, her playwright, his wife, and her producer. This is infiltrated by the apparently sweet and gentle Eve Harrington. The temperamental, sometimes bitch-goddess Margo reveals her vulnerable, loveable side as Eve, propelled on by a cynical critic De Witt, schemes and connives to replace Margo, and becomes a monster-in-waiting. Sharp, witty dialogue, plenty of drama and Davis at her best make this an unmissable fifties film. Clever touches include the piano playing "Stormy Weather" in the background, as Margo stomps upstairs in a rage, and the rather surprising poetic-justice ending.
