Review by RT on 5th October 2000

A slight tale of a dance-hall hostess looking for love in New York is transformed by renowned Broadway choreographer, Bob Fosse, into a sizzling parade of electrifying dance routines, all filmed with a daring lack of conventionality. Add to this mix, a witty screenplay by Neil Simon (‘She runs her heart like a hotel; guys check in and out all the time.’), a highly engaging central performance by Shirley Maclaine, and a host of great Broadway tunes such as ‘Big Spender’, ‘If My Friends Could See Me Now’ and ‘The Rhythm of Life’, all performed in the distinctive Fosse dance style.
