Film Description

A horror institution staggers to a halt. The final slice of Romero’s zombie trilogy revolves around the homogenization of the dead ones through surgery and a few mod cons. Plenty to make you nauseous, plenty to make you think.

Review by Yan Madsie on 5th October 2000

Day of the Dead has to be one of the finest films made in Horror history. Based in an underground bunker in a post zombie holocaust, a small group of scientists and US military spend their time trying to make sense of the predicament the world now finds itself in. Humans are now out-numbered by 500,000 to 1 and there appears to be no solution to restoring world order. However is it better to be living underground in the bunker with fellow humans than to be walking free with the undead outside?
As the film develops, relationships between the scinetists and the military become strained, perpetuated by the psychotic, dictatorial leadership of Sergeant Rose. Slowly the but surely the atmosphere in the bunker intensifies as confidence in sergeant Rose's sanity and ultimately everyone safety ebbs away.
The film builds to an exilleratint crescendo, which poses the question, who are more wicked the zombies or the humans?
A must see for any horror film fan, beautifully paced, with a first class script and exceptional special effects that are still fantastic looking even in todays computer effects era. 10/10
