Review by Sgt. Slappy on 10th July 2000

Dark City is a true masterpiece in every since. It is as visually stunning as it is mentally captivating. It is a dark, disturbing, gothic tale of aliens who are toying with human test subjects memories within an enescapable city. That's really all I can tell of the plot without spoiling it's many shocking and brilliant twists. This film is easily the best sci-fi to appear in many years. A sleeper hit when it was first released in 1998, Dark City has developed a small cult following thourghout the world of movie buffs, and rightly so. The cast all deliver great and very memorable performances, but most notable in the cast is Richard O'Brian (Riff Raff from the Rocky Horror Picture Show) as the devilish "Stranger" named Mr.Hand. O'Brian's performance is more sinister and ominous that any Hollywood villain in recent memory. Along with it's great script, strong cast and excellent direction, Dark City offers an incredible array of visual effects. There are countless images throughout the film that are truly unforgettable, and the over all deliverance of the film will leave a lasting impact in your mind. While this film may not have international publicity, it has a legion of faithful fans (world-renowed movie critic Roger Ebert ranked it his #1 film of 1998) and I recoomend it to anyone. It is a thought-provoking and inspirational masterpiece.
