Film Description

Brilliant film noir with laid-back performances from Bruce Dern and Ryan O'Neal, while Isabelle Adjani is captivating in her understated role. Largely remembered for its classic car chases, which is a pity, since the film's main strength is in its take on the hero/antihero dilemma. None of the players have names, which heightens the detatched, spaced out feel of the movie. Almost entirely filmed at night in vividly captured locations, "The Driver" is as good a portrayal of good and evil as you will see in modern cinema. BS.

Translating the spaghetti western face-off to an LA which foresees Blade Runner, Hill's spare film finds a bunch of nameless myopic souls jostling for advantage amidst the blasted concrete lots and deserted freeways of an America reeling from the oil crisis. Just who is 'The Cowboy who's Never been Caught'?
