The Red Shoes (Powell & Pressburger, 1948)
Film Description Rightly acclaimed as one of the great films in the history of British cinema. This film fully realises Powell's vision of complete art. He combines music, art and cinema in a work of such beauty and intelligence that it caused Scorsese to name it as one of the five greatest films ever made. A work that really stands the test of time and keeps improving with subsequent viewings.

Review by Clinton Morgan on 4th March 2000 A spiritual movie. It is cinematic and any attempt to analyse it would be tantamount to dissecting a butterfly. View more reviews by Clinton Morgan

Powell's bestknown films are spectacular, sensual, fanciful. The others are quiet, retiring, almost secretive. Even, disappointing; until odd details tease your mind, and gradually the simplicity reveals its depths.
