Film Description

Shakespeare's timeless tale of murder, corruption and revenge is reset in an opulent 19th-century world, using sprawling Blenheim Palace as Elsinore with much of the action staged in shimmering mirrored and gold-filled interiors, filmed in glorious 70mm.

This is a marvellous spectacle full of fantastic colours, beautiful costumes, and breathtaking sets - all of which, rightly, only serve as a backdrop to the gripping, insightful performances. Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Gerard Depardieu, and even Ken Dodd turn up but incredibly none seem out of place.
The excitement of the Bard's words and Branagh's adventurous filmmaking style lift the story from its often shadowy ambience to fully-lit pageantry and rage.
