Film Description

A ravishingly lovely film set in the 17th century and featuring an exquisite soundtrack of baroque chamber music.

In grief at the death of his wife, viola da gamba player Monsieur de Sainte Colombe builds a small house in his garden into which he moves to dedicate his life to music and his two young daughters. He avoids the outside world even to the extent of refusing a request from Louis XIV, who wants him in his court orchestra. All this changes when a young man arrives with a request to teach him the viol.
