The Piano
DVD £15.99 RRP £19.99 You save £4.00 (20%)
Film Description Set in New Zealand, the enormously popular 'The Piano' was instantly proclaimed as a masterpiece. It is exceptional for its tempestuous, luxuriant romanticism and landscapes, its brooding sensuality, along with the quality of the acting - Holly Hunter and young Anna Paquin as her daughter are outstanding - and also Nyman's memorable score. The mute heroine's liberation from despotic, jealous male control is genuinely uplifting.

Review by John Davies on 16th February 2000 Set in New Zealand and joint winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or, the enormously popular 'The Piano' was instantly proclaimed as a 90's masterpiece. It is remarkable for its tempestuous, luxuriant romanticism and landscapes, its brooding sensuality, along with the quality of the acting - Hunter and young Anna Paquin as her daughter are outstanding - and Nyman's memorable score. The mute heroine's liberation from despotic, jealous male controls (achieved at significant, life-threatening cost) is genuinely uplifting. View more reviews by John Davies

Films From Room 101 by Alex Davidson As much as I love cinema, sometimes a film comes along which makes me wish to cull the entire cast and crew. More often than not they are films that are inexplicably popular with critics and the public, which makes my frustration all the greater. Anyone who seriously thinks Love Actually is a good film should not be allowed out in public. Anyway, here are ten of the most execrable films ever made for the sadists out there...
