Madame Bovary
Film Description Unfaithful wives don't come any more insubordinate than Flaubert's jaded Emma, and renditions of Emma don't come any more alluring than Huppert's. Drifting like a lost saint among the dreary trappings of rural Normandy, she becomes consumed by the myths and trinkets of another kind of life. And so the saint falls to earth.

Review by anonymous on 13th September 1999 A faithful adaptation of Flauberts classic novel by Claude Chabrol. Isabelle Huppert gives a stunning performance as the passionate and rebellious Emma Bovary who, repressed by her bourgeois life and bored by her dull husband, seeks out romance and danger.
