Film Description

Coppola called this 'Camus for kids'. Shot back-to-back with 'The Outsiders' in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this is in fact the far superior work. Coppola's most underrated film, in which Matt dillon plays the leader of a small gang in an industrial town. The memory of his absent older brother, The Motorcycle Boy, is still strong for him, his mother has left, his father drinks and school has no meaning. Against this background he is drawn into one more forbidden gang fight.

Review by CJ on 26th July 2001

The cast list (Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Dennis Hopper, Diane Lane, Nicolas Cage, Samuel L Jackson & Tom Waits) reads like a whos who of hipness, and the cinematic style is in part inspired by Cocteaus Orphee and Orson Welles. Ex-Policeman Stewart Copeland provides the brilliantly original, edgy score.
