Film Description

James Cagney plays an American newspaper editor working in Japan between the wars. While investigating the double murder of a fellow reporter and his wife, he discovers the insidious Tanaka Plan, which plainly states the Japanese aims of world domination. If he is to warn the world about the Japanese plot, he must stay alive and out of the hands of the secret police - with the help of a beautiful Chinese-American spy (Sylvia Sidney). Theodore Sparkul's high-contrast film noir lighting is among the best of the 1940s.
