Film Description This film remains as thoroughly enjoyable as ever. Julie Andrew's gentle charisma adds great humour and sincerity to the picture. As its title suggests however, it is the score that remains timeless. Who could forget such gems as 'My Favourite Things', 'Do Re Mi', 'Edelweiss' and the haunting 'Climb Every Mountain'?

Review by RT on 5th October 2000 Despite its undeniable sentimentality, this still remains an enjoyable addition to the musical genre. Director Robert Wise successfully moves away from the stage origins of the piece, by opening out the story to incorporate much location footage of the beautiful Austrian mountains. Julie Andrews brings the role of Maria to life with ease. Her gentle charisma adds great humour and sincerity to the picture, and her romance with Captain Von Trapp, is touching despite the obvious opposites attract scenario. As its title suggests, however, it is the score that remains timeless. Who could forget such gems as ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Do Re Mi’, ‘Edelweiss’ and the haunting ‘Climb Every Mountain’. A sugarcoated delight! RT.
Review by anonymous on 30th August 2000 Oscar winning, feel-good movie . Dismissed by many because of its popularity, and taken a little for granted due to its afterlife on television, but an immensely enjoyable, beautiful looking, and, when the family try to escape from the Nazis, very exciting piece of cinema.
