Film Description

Robert de Niro is the fantasizing, would-be comic trying to break into showbiz via a spot on the Jerry Lewis TV show. Unfazed by constant rejection, a flaky de Niro gradually gets us rooting for him as the little man up against the odds, and who quirkily beats them. Sandra Bernhardt is kooky sidekick. JJ

Review by Rupert Pupkin on 18th July 2000

Marty and Bob the most formidable duo Hollywood team up for yet another all time classic. Not their greatest one has to say ( for further enlightenment see the awesome raging bull ) but none the less one of the greatest films of all time. I watched the Oscar ceremonies live the year this film was released and the name the 'King of Comedy' was read out every other award. You must but this film if you are at all a cultured and enlightened film person. the closing credits even give you a taste of Van Morrisons ' Wonderful Remark' which incidentally is available on no Van Morrison album apart from the best of.. and the long deleted ' King of Comedy OST' which I happen to have. Still available on import from the states if you are desperate. What more do you want. Buy the thing, phone in sick, Pour yourself a G+T and watch this film on a weekday afternoon and you will at least for an hour or so realise that life is not so bad at all.
