Review by Barry Forshaw on 30th April 2003 Although The Pajama Game remains the quintessential Doris Day musical, David Butler's totally delightful Calamity Jane runs it a close second. Before her performances became anodyne, Day delivers a portrayal of tremendous energy and panache in this sheerly delightful musical, with such classic numbers as Just Blew in from The Windy City and (of course) The Deadwood Stage delivered with a tremendous brio. Ironically, the overdue DVD release of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun showed that this classic musical, although essentially a reworking of Berlin's classic, was infinitely more beguiling.
