Film Description

Includes three Eisenstein classics: 'Strike' (1924) - the brilliant recreation of a factory strike in Tsarist Russia and its brutal destruction by agents provocateurs, police and the army; 'Battleship Potemkin' (1925) - one of the landmarks in cinema history in which a brutalised and persecuted crew begin a mutiny which captures the popular imagination and 'October 1917' (1928), a dynamic reconstruction of the events surrounding the two revolutions of 1917. Also includes 'The Fall Of The Romanoff Dynasty', footage of events between 1913-17 compiled as a propaganda film intending to exaggerate the role of the Bolsheviks in overthrowing the Tsar.

Review by Dave Butcher on 19th October 2001

It is hard to bring words to this film, for pure artistry of cammera angles one has to go a long way to find better. It is a must for every film buff and is hard to better even with modern technology. One of the most powerfull films in the cannon, it has to be seen to be believed.
