Film Description

A highly stylised and savage satire on consumerism and the bourgeoisie that takes place over a weekend's trip from Paris to Normandy that turns into automobile apocalypse and ends in cannibalism. Godard trashes just about every cinematic convention in the book on the way while at the same time using the artistry of the medium to full effect, including the famous 10 minute tracking shot. An essential watch.

Alex's Favourite French Films by Alex Davidson

I've always been a particular admirer of French film, having studied it and loved the films throughout my life and career. Many of my all-time favourite movies were made in France, and here is a selection of my very favourite French films.

Films Jeremy Paxman Won't Like by Alan Boshier

The recent deaths of Ingmar Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni were marked in fulsomely philistine fashion by BBC's Newsnight programme; in particular Mr. Paxman excelled in his very realistic portrayal of an arch art cinema hater. So, as a service to the esteemed Mr. Paxman, here is a list of films he should steer well clear of; accidental exposure would risk extreme apoplexy and other symptoms of cultural and artistic myopia.

Halliwell's Top 100 Movies by MovieMail

Leslie Halliwell was one of the most authoritative of film critics and a new edition of the film bible lists the Top 1000 movies of all time. Here we list the Top 100, all of which are undoubted classics that stand up to repeated viewings and which are testament to the brilliance that cinema can achieve.
