Film Description

American couple Port and Kit Noresby (John Malkovich and Debra Winger) journey to North Africa, hoping that travel will save their failing marriage. But these hopes are short lived, for while Port visits local prostitutes, Kit starts an affair with their travelling companion, thereby putting reconciliation even further beyond their reach.

Eschewing easy likeability and more than straightforward 1940s-style travel adventure, The Sheltering Sky pulls you deep into its exotic, erotic, deadly, delirious, sensuous centre. Distinguished by Storaro's superlative desert cinematography, rich symbolic colours, Sakamoto's throbbing score and Winger's unjustly overlooked performance, the film gives a magnificent and atmospheric evocation of North Africa.
