Film Description Until Crouching Tiger, Lee was not a director who revelled in technique, but charting subtle Taiwanese social graces made him the perfect choice for Jane Austen. Propelled by dry wit, this 90s analysis of Georgian sexual politics is clearly Thompson's show, an impression to which she graciously replied by acknowledging Lee at Oscar time.

Review by JJ. on 20th July 2000 Thompson and the pre-Titanic Winslet are well contrasted as Elinor and Marianne. Should be seen as a good costumne drama, for the stalwart British thesps, as an adaptation of Jane Austen - the divine Miss A. - and as an Ang Lee fim.
