Film Description

Four years post-68 and the revolution burns on in a couple now forced to revise their ideas and their relations. A newly radicalized Jane Fonda joined with Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin for this assault on consumer society, marriage and capitalism. Fonda plays a reporter, Yves Montand plays her has-been film director husband. The story centres around a wildcat strike at a sausage factory.

Review by Ed Crooks on 1st November 2002

Godard's post 68 films are both little analysed and little available. Yet this body of work, dubbed his 'political' works, is as interesting and as experimental as any of his other, better known works. Tout Va Bien is unfortunately one of only two films of this period available on video; the other is 'One Plus One'(Ici et Ailleurs'). Although less radical than 'A film like any other', Tout Va Bien is a good introduction to the political period and to the themes and ideals which underlay both his previous films and the later work of the seventies. His film making style is, as always, unique, his arguments forcefully presented with originality and humour. His later film 'Letter to Jane', looking at Fonda's political presence, is well worth watching as a companion piece to this film, if you can get the opportunity to see it.
