Immoral Tales
Film Description A portmanteau of four stories that take sex through the ages as their subject. Borowczyk's eye is as ever assured in giving as much importance to curios and surroundings as the flesh that populates the screen. Includes a look at such famous figures as Lucrezia Borgia and Erszebet Bathory - the original Countess Dracula.

Article - "Walerian Borowczyk"
by Graeme Hobbs
As befits a man who spent years as an animator before directing his first live-action film, Borowczyk's universe often seems entirely self-contained, filled with objects and curios to which characters exist as adjuncts. He brings his painterly eye to clothing and set... View article in full

Polish director Walerian Borowzyck is a master at delineating the intimate psychology of interiors, especially in films such as The Story of Sin (1975) and La Bête (1975). However, controversy over the sexual content of his films tends to overshadow dis... View article in full

Le poète maudit - In Memory of Borowczyk by Alan Boshier The Polish director Walerian Borowczyk died in February of this year (2006). An original but controversial talent, his career began with several highly regarded animated shorts and features, before moving into live action with Goto, l'île d'amour (1968). As his films became more explicitly erotic, critical attention fell by the wayside or became openly hostile, but most of them contain moments of extraordinary visual power and the best of them are very good indeed.
