Film Description
Joan Fontaine gives the greatest performance of her career as the tragic heroine in this masterpiece set in turn of the century Vienna. Ophuls' celebrated flowing camera style is much in evidence, music is always playing in Vienna and his camera glides through scenes with the grace and timing of a waltz also synchronising with the emotions of the characters.
