While his own perverse nature and self-destructiveness led Sam Peckinpah to turn on any producer who allowed him to work, and poison the relationship, he nevertheless managed to make several of the most pertinent and individual films in the history of the American cinema. The Wild Bunch is, of course, his masterpiece, and this sumptuous two-disc edition showcases this famously violent and elegiac film in a fashion that it's never enjoyed before. The Wild Bunch changed the face of American cinema (notably in its treatment of violence) and this fully restored print allows us to appreciate both the visual beauty of the film and is perfectly honed characterisation. There are over two hours of bonus materials - an unmissable set.
