Film Description

Notoriously on initial release, Tango broke new ground in its frank depiction and discussions of sex. Chiefly notable for Brando's stunning performance as an American in Paris undergoing a mid-life crisis following his wife's suicide, who embarks on a series of increasingly depraved sexual encounters with a young woman. Brando's towering acting carries the weight of great confessional poetry, and the downbeat mood is reflected in Gato Barbieri's plaintive saxophone score.
