Film Description
Aka L'Été Meutrier. A beautiful and moody nineteen-year old who returns to the quiet Provence village near her birthplace bent on revenge for a crime that happened nineteen summers before. A genuinely good thriller with decent photography and direction, and an absolute must for Adjani fans.

Review by Julian Upton on 3rd August 2004
A marvellous film of shifting perspectives and unexpected twists. What begins, seemingly, as a light, bawdy comedy about village sex life soon becomes
something much more dark and mysterious. Isabelle Adjani is outstanding as the ostensibly carefree and sexually brazen Eliane, who waltzes into the community
with a truckload of attitude and a wardrobe-full of see-through dresses. But after seducing unassuming fireman Pin Pon (Alain Souchon), and moving into his
unwelcoming family home, Eliane’s troubled past and shadier motives are gradually revealed in tantalising morsels of backstory.
One Deadly Summer is one of those thrillers that the French seem to do better than anyone else: it is sexy, funny, mischievous and disarmingly powerful.

Review by John Newland on 20th January 2001
Adjani's is the central performance in this film - it is simply excellent. The whole piece is a deeply layered film that unveils itself one skin at a time and is deeply impressive in its pace and plotting. Of its genre, its just about perfect.
