Film Description

Unbalanced by his wife's challenging admission of imagined infidelity, a doctor cruises through a surreal night in search of new erotic experiences. Forget the mixed response from sensation-hungry media and public: intriguingly mysterious and visually resplendent, Kubrick's long-awaited final film is a mature masterpiece, a fitting testament likened by one distinguished French critic to late Rembrandt.

Review by G R Walsh on 9th June 2004

I must strongly disagree with the previous reviewer as it seems that his eyes were "wide shut" by this movie. This movie is one of the best movies ever to come out of the US. Stanley Kubrick left us with an unforgettable legacy. It's a masterpiece in its own class. Unswervering and unapologetic in its story line. It's either you dig it or you are lost forever thinking "what just happened here?". This is what I call "mind bending and disturbing" in a good way. A doctor (Cruise and Kidman) then husband and wife portray the best performance of a life time. Wife confesses to desire another & husband is not jealous because he believes in his wife. From there events happen so swifly with the doctor ending up in country house. Well I guess you will have buy this movie. There is a lot of erotic scenes & nudity portrayed in a very sensuous manner, sorry no pornography here. It has an age restriction of 18 which I think is good call. The picture is excellent, 5.1 Dolby Digital with extras of Spielberg, Kidman,Cruise & other things. A true Masterpiece.
