The Sixth of May

aka 06/05, Theo van Gogh, 2004

Film Description

A fictionalised account of the assassination of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn who was assassinated in 2002. The film takes the point of view of a photojournalist who was in the vicinity of the murder and happened to witness some suspicious actions. As he delves further into the case, he begins to suspect that the government had a hand in Fortuyn's murder – a revelation that could cost him and his young daughter their lives.

With tragic irony, director Theo van Gogh suffered the same fate as the subject of his film when he was killed by a radical Islamist who objected to his film on the mistreatment of women in Islamic culture.
