Film Description
A selection of six short films from around the world that explore such universally human themes as feeling detached from one's surroundings, the fear of change, contemporary urban living, and the insecurity that it brings. One Minute Past Midnight (Celia Galan Julve, 2004) is set in 2058. Robert and Steve celebrate every New Year in the same 24-hour convenience store where they work the nightshift. Nothing changes in their lives, but when Robert discovers that the girl of his dreams works on the dayshift, he suddenly finds he has to make a big decision.
Fare Ben Mikles (Christian Angeli, 2005) explores the relationship between siblings Sergio and Maria, from their troubled childhood to adult hardships. Throughout, their invented game 'Mikles' provides them with a survival technique.
Trafic (Catalin Mitulescu, 2004) is set in rush hour in Bucharest, where a young businessman abandons his car, confronts a family drama, amd finds a new perspective on life.
Canciones De Invierno (Félix Viscarret, 2004) is set in November on the outskirts of an anonymous European city. Five different people are killing time, but their lives are unravelling in the wreckage of recent love affairs.
In Mekong Interior (Vanessa Ly, 2004), when a couple travel to Cambodia, the man tries to search out his heritage but finds little to connect with and soon feels alienated in the environment. When the woman begins to experience a fascinating and exotic new world, which draws her further and further in, a tension develops between them that soon reaches breaking point.
Breaking Out (Maldonado, 2004) is a dark but ultimately uplifting journey into the mind of a depressed woman as her fervid imagination fuelled by her fear and paranoia unexpectedly leads her to reconnect with life.
