Film Description

Starring and produced by Diane Kruger, Fabienne Berthaud’s psychodrama Frankie probes the events that led to emotional crisis, mental breakdown, and psychiatric hospitalization for a fashion model. The suppposed glamour of the lifestyle is revealed as simply moments of action in between long stretches of boredom and loneliness, surrounded by shallow characters who treat the models as clothes hangers. The film's intimate documentary-like feel lends a compelling, emotional realism to the subject.

Berthaud, who had previously made a documentary on the fashion industry, shot Frankie on the fly over a period of three years, with a miniscule budget and a crew of just three.
