Film Description

Penelope Keeling is too energetic and too independent to settle down into old-age. This version of THE SHELL SEEKERS is certainly more
complete than the Hallmark version with Angela Lansbury.
Most of the novel is included in this tv adaptation.
Vanessa Redgrave is superb. She plays Penelope who
checks herself out of the hospital after having had a
heart attack and returns home much to the chagrin of two
of her three children. The movie is well done.

I saw the first movie Shell Seekers with Angela Landsbury. It was a good movie and story but I had the book before the movie was produced so in that respect the movie was disappointing.

I saw only the last 45 minutes of the 2006 version. Again the acting and screenplay were well done and this one was closer to the book. But the last part when going throu Pen's letters and books it was Oliva who finds the book Richard gave Pen. I do wish screenwriters would read the books they want to dramatize, they should keep in mind they are putting faces and voices to words. Also the actresses of sisters Nancy and Oliva should have swapped roles as far as appearances, the first movie's actresses were more in keeping with the age of the women. Still either movie is great entertainment and a wonderful story of people, family and love. JUST DON'T READ THE BOOK FIRST.
