Film Description

Aka Woe is Me. Godard returns (after his 1985 film Je Vous Salue, Marie) to the territory of religion in this the story of a journalist's investigation into a case of divine possession. Godard takes his cue from the Greek myth of Alcmene, in which Zeus assumes the shape of her husband, Amphitryon, so that he can experience the pleasure of physical love. In the film, God enters the body of filmmaker Simon Donnadieu (Gérard Depardieu) in order to make love to his faithful wife Rachel. A complex, ravishingly beautiful, existential reflection on love and longing.
