Film Description

Two classic Fred and Ginger movies with the pairing at their peak. Top Hat (1935) has choreography by Hermes Pan, music by Irving Berlin, and an amusing plot of comic misunderstandings. Highlights are The Piccolino, Ginger exquisite in that dress in Heaven, and Astaire at his most debonair in Top Hat, White Tie and Tails. Shall we Dance (1937) is a typically whimsical escapade of a dancer chasing the girl of his dreams and using his ability as a song and dance man to woo her. Cue a variety of exhilarating dances and memorable songs by George and Ira Gershwin, including 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off', one of their most famous and fondly remembered routines, as performed on roller-skates. Marvellous.
