Film Description

Herzog's strange and atmospheric chronicle of the sixteenth century madrigal composer Don Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa, whose life embraced sexual excess, murder and obsession. Filming in Italy, Herzog mixes dramatised encounters, academic appreciation and performances of madrigals into a freeform documentary that brings the composer's life, music and deeds into the light.
