Film Description
Huffman, best known for her role in Desperate Housewives, deserved an Oscar for her incredible performance as Bree, a pre-op male-female transsexual who learns she has a wayward son (Zegers, also superb) just days before her operation. Funny, moving, and highly recommended.

Review by Alex Davidson on 15th July 2006
What Felicity Huffman achieves in this touching, funny road movie is a fearless, brilliant performance most Hollywood actresses would not even dare contemplate - she plays Bree, a pre-op male-female transsexual, who discovers she has a delinquent son just days before she is due to have her operation. Bree, masquerading as a Christian saviour of lost souls, takes her son across the country to see his mother and stepfather, but things do not go according to plan.
Huffman, best known as Lynette in Desperate Housewives, is astonishingly convincing as a transsexual. She cleverly exaggerates her feminine gestures, playing a character so desperate to be accepted as a woman that she occasionally forgets that being natural would be more convincing. Whilst Bree has had a difficult life, Huffman infuses her with a dry wit, leading to some hilarious confrontations with her cocky son (Kevin Zegers, very funny). A sharp script blends well with the affectionate tone to produce one of the best American films of last year - a warm road movie with a bite.
