Film Description

The latest Pixar sensation sees a family of superheroes retiring to the suburbs, only to be recruited again when the world is at threat from Syndrome, an old nemesis. For the first time Pixar has enlisted the talent of Brad Bird, a Simpsons veteran who also directed the underrated The Iron Giant. His direction and witty screenplay are major assets, and he provides many of the film's funniest moments, voicing the character of camp fashion designer Edna Mode. Great fun.

Review by Alex Davidson on 21st January 2005

It is now a given that every Pixar film is going to be a joy, and The Incredibles continues the tradition of high quality; there is plenty here to entertain adults as well as children. In their latest hit, Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter voice Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, a married superhero couple who are brought out of retirement when the world is at threat from Syndrome, an old nemesis. This simple premise leads to elaborate set pieces (including a hilarious chase scene) and some great visual gags.
The Incredibles' snappy script earned it an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay, only the third animated film ever to achieve this (following earlier Pixar triumphs Toy Story and Finding Nemo). For the first time the studio enlisted the talent of Brad Bird, a Simpsons veteran who also directed the underrated The Iron Giant. His direction and witty screenplay are major assets, and he provides many of the films funniest moments, voicing the character of camp fashion designer Edna Mode. Great fun.
